No way, I’m saying. The last thing I want to come face-to-face with during my roadtrip around Canada is Finnish tourists. The kind of tourists that make me feel, well, ashamed of Finland, ashamed of being “one of them”.
This had to happen here in Montreal, in the romantic, charming streets of the old town. A middle-aged couple, dressed up in beautiful Finnish outfits (read=the normal tuulipuku-look) suddenly walked into us on one of the small streets and we heard the woman very loudly say to her husband “Let’s do some serious shopping, Pena”. In utter shock and embarrasement for some incomprehensible reason, I closed my mouth and started to walk away very fast.
No. I am not ready to see these people that call themselves Finns. Not here, not now.
Whenever I spot another Finn in London, tourist or not, I shut up and wait for any gems that may come out of their mouths. I have a feeling anyone sensible does the same, meaning you won’t even notice the “normal” Finns who keep their heads down.
